Several callers reported seeing a man with a handgun in front of the 101 Terrace Avenue apartment complex, Sgt. John Behr said.
Responding officers learned of the fight and were told that someone wearing an orange and pink shirt was armed, Behr said.
Moments later, someone called police to report a suspicious black Volkswagen circling the area.
Detectives and uniformed officers who pulled the vehicle over spotted a black weapon on the driver’s side floorboard, Behr said.
It turned out to be a .177-caliber BB gun, he said.
All others involved had fled, the sergeant added.
Arrested was 20-year-old John Portillo of North Bergen. He was released, under New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform law, pending a Feb. 13 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on weapons charges.
Also taken into custody was an underage boy who was released to a parent, Behr said.
